The Ring of Five, 900

Bleeding contracts, silent dark

In the year 900, five exhausted nations encircle a ring-shaped continent, unable to invade each other directly, so they wage their wars through proxy contracts issued to mercenaries in the Bastion, the fortress-island city at the center of the sea. As a low-rank mercenary, your signed contracts and rank badge are the thin line between survival and starvation. To the south, the Dark—a region that swallowed an ancient civilization—has begun, after a thousand silent years, to push outward, unsettling the balance and threatening to make every contract a matter of survival.

World premise

A playable world seed with consequences.

The year is 900. The Ring of Five Nations is a continent shaped like a broken wheel, its nations locked in a hundred-year stalemate—too weak to invade each other directly, too proud to make peace. So they fight by contract, through blades like you. The Bastion, a fortress-island city at the center of the sea, is the mercenary's home: every killing, escort, and grave-robbing is a signed contract, and your rank badge is the thin line between survival and starvation. But to the south, the Dark—a region that swallowed an ancient civilization—has begun, after a thousand silent years, to push outward. The contracts are getting stranger, the pay is getting tighter, and the rumor is that the Dark doesn't negotiate. You are a low-rank mercenary in the Bastion, and your next signature might be your last.

The Dark's stirring is making the usual contracts more dangerous, with clients afraid of what might come back from the south.

Descending to gain enough coin to pay your next month's food and lodging, or to renew your badge's registration.

Local survival pressures are reshaping who can take risks and who cannot, as the Harbor Ring buzzes with rumors of a crackdown and relics.

Movement offers opportunity, but every outward step carries visible risk, especially if you're caught without a contract.

More worlds to play

1820 royal school were, 1820

In 1820, the royal school is a pressure cooker where students learn titles, etiquette, and the art of manipulation. Survival depends on navigating cliques, planting rumors, and guarding your own name while advancing through the ranks.

The Waking City, 2026

Modern New York is a city where magic is real, rare, difficult, valuable, and quietly integrated into society. Magic has no single universal system. It responds to disciplined ways of interpreting reality: ritual, science, law, art, faith, technology, crime, or business. As the city reaches critical symbolic density, the line between a legal contract and a binding ritual has dissolved, and the pressure of eight million competing ambitions is causing the mundane world to buckle.

Thessaloniki 100 BCE, 100

The Roman province of Macedonia is a crossroads of tension. In the bustling port of Thessaloniki, the wealthy navigate Roman politics while the urban poor struggle against rising grain prices and the heavy hand of the governor's tax collectors.

The Tangle of Chionthar, 1492

In the dense, magical periphery of the Wood of Sharp Teeth near Baldur's Gate, the reach of the Flaming Fist is thin. Settlers and outcasts struggle against encroaching fey-corrupted flora and the economic squeeze of city-state tariffs while surviving on the edge of the Coast Way.

The Division, 1970

The Berlin Wall is a decade old, hardening the divide between the socialist GDR and the capitalist West. In East Berlin (the Capital of the GDR), the Mark der DDR fuels a command economy defined by shortages and Stasi surveillance, while West Berlin sits as a subsidized democratic island within the Soviet bloc. Players navigate the frictions of the Cold War, from the Intershop's lure of Western goods to the quiet pressure of the SED party apparatus.

Trench Crusade's, 1914

From the smoke-clogged European capitals, you can rise from a simple laborer or farmer to become an inventor of war-engines or a titan of industry. Amidst the clatter of armored trains and the chanting of militarized monks, your ability to build factories, supply the front, or take up the sword allows you to seize the gears of fate and dramatically redirect the course of the 20th century.
